Isabella Wells is an emerging ceramic artist who comes from a background in Architecture. Her works incorporate ancient motifs, personal mythology and the raw elemental beauty of the natural environment. Her exploration in contemporary ceramic techniques of clay body staining and glazing informs her use of textures, ornamentation and design elements. Working primarily with stoneware clays, the clay body is stained with raw materials and is left unglazed or burnished to show the body of the clay, emphasising the material connection to earth. Isabella uses a variety of slow hand-building techniques like press moulding, pinching, and coiling in the process of making.
I acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation as the first inhabitants and traditional custodians of the land on which I live and work. I pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
